There are still no firm totals on how many people were mis-sold PPI insurance by banks who loved the huge profit margins on this personal protection insurance.
The insurance was often sold in conjunction with debt consolidation loans, home mortgages and credit cards. Looking to make easy money the banks often sold these policies to people who did not qualify.
The first group who did not qualify, but were often mis-sold the policies, were those with medical conditions. These medical conditions include many common diseases such as asthma, and migraines.
The second group who did not qualify were those with no variable income. This included students, but also included many wealthy people who were self-employed. It also included housewives and those who were retired.
The other group who did not qualify are those who work for a company that pays full salary when the worker is absent, a common practice, especially among the public sector.
